Liverpool fans have torn into one star for their performance during the Reds’ first of two friendlies against Athletic Bilbao on Monday night, claiming that he no longer belongs at the club. Arne Slot is set to oversee two games in one day as his Premier League champions and Bilbao face off in back-to-back fixtures, with the first starting at 5pm and the second getting underway at 8pm.
The two games have allowed the Dutchman to name two entirely different XIs, with the likes of Mohamed Salah, Florian Wirtz and Virgil van Dijk all missing out on the early kick-off. However, one player who did feature certainly didn’t do enough to impress those watching.
Liverpool Fans Call For Harvey Elliott to be Sold
The Englishman did not have his best display against Bilbao
Despite easing to a 4-1 victory, fans were not happy with Harvey Elliott’s overall display in the Merseyside sun, with many calling on the club to cash in on the 22-year-old. Elliott added the fourth goal of the game from close range after Darwin Nunez, Rio Ngumoha and Ben Doak had already put the hosts in a commanding position.
However, the goal was not enough for some fans who were incredibly critical of the midfielder’s performance. Elliott was comfortable in possession, completing 96% of his passes, including 100% of his long balls. However, his first touch frequently came into question online, as the former Fulham starlet was dispossessed on eight occasions.
Elliott struggled for game time during Slot’s first season at the club, though his recent performances in England’s successful U21 European Championship campaign have put him in the shop window, with several Premier League clubs believed to be after his signature.
Yet, his performance today was enough for many on social media to have their say, with one fan posting: “Harvey Elliott, your days are numbered buddy- s*** performance with no first touch as well. You’re gone pal.” A second followed up adding: “Harvey Elliot’s first touch today is shambles.”
A third pleaded: “Harvey Elliott please leave my club,” with a fourth going on to say: “Harvey Elliott just isn’t good enough for Liverpool.”
“Harvey Elliot is horrible, need to ship him ASAP,” said a fifth, with another calling for the club to “get that 40m for Harvey Elliott already man this guy doesn’t belong here.”
Finally, another fan wrote: “Rio and Wirtz ruined me, Elliott is unwatchable now.”
